The kind of pub you don't find much anymore.

Right in the heart of Cobram, on the corner of Punt Road, under the silos. A proper country local — and it has been on this corner for well over a century.

The Grand Central Hotel on the corner of Punt Road, Cobram — a two-storey pub with a wraparound verandah and the wheat silos rising behind it

You’ll know it by the verandah and the Carlton sign on the roof.

Right in the heart of Cobram, the Grand Central Hotel is the kind of pub you don’t find much anymore — a proper country local with a warm front bar, a pool table that’s always in use, and a beer garden where the dogs are as welcome as their owners.

Pull up a stool in the front bar for a cold one after work. Grab a table in the bistro with the family for a feed that doesn’t cut corners. Or settle into the beer garden with the dog at your feet and a parma on the way.

Thursday nights mean Parma Day all day, Sundays mean free pool, and there’s usually a meat raffle worth sticking around for.

We serve up big, hearty meals made with locally sourced produce. Join us for lunch or dinner, grab takeaway, or have it delivered.

We’re not fancy. We’re not trying to be. We’re just good food, cold drinks, and the kind of company that makes a country pub worth coming back to.

The bistro

A wall of coasters, and decades behind it.

Look up from your table and there it is: hundreds of beer mats and brewery coasters pinned in a grid above the corrugated dado. Breweries that folded before most of the room was born, sitting next to last month's new tap.

It’s the first thing a regular points out to a visitor, and it is a fair summary of the place: nothing thrown out, everything worth keeping still up on the wall.

The front bar

Cold enough to freeze
the taps solid.

That is not a figure of speech. By knock-off on a hot day the beer font at the Grand Central ices over white — Carlton Dry, Great Northern, VB and Hard Rated behind a tower you can write your name on. Happy Hour runs Thursday and Friday, 4 till 6.

Pool table’s always in use. Free all day Sunday.

Out the back

The dogs are as welcome as their owners.

Timber picnic tables, open lawn and the whole bistro menu served outside. Bring the dog, bring the kids, bring the paper. Nobody is going to hurry you along.
